Benelli Motorcycles is one of the oldest Italian motorcycle manufacturers in the world. It began the journey in 1911 when the Benelli brothers started repairing bicycles and motorcycles while also creating spare parts to sell. Giuseppe, Giovanni, Francesco, Filippo, Domenico, and Antonio began this business with the help of their mother, Teresa. Giuseppe and Giovanni were sent to Switzerland to study engineering to bring much-needed education for the future of the company.
During World War I, the company took on repairing Italian war machines. This not only helped the business thrive, it also allowed the brothers to manufacture and introduce their first motorcycle.
Antonio was a natural rider and racer thus he began racing the Benelli Motorcycles. He won four titles in five years; 1927, 1928, 1930, and 1931. Unfortunately, Antonio passed in 1937 during a racing accident.
Word War II brought a halt to production for Benelli Motorcycles. All unsold motorcycles were used by the Italian military. In 1949, production began again and Benelli has been going strong since. The company has been breaking racing barriers ever since. In 2016, they were able to break into the Iranian market. No other motorcycle company has been able to accomplish that feat.
