The KTM 450 is a four-stroke enduro off-road motorcycle manufactured by KTM. The models available in the US are the 450 EXC, the 450 (close ratio) XC, and the 450 (wide ratio) XC-W. The EXC is street legal in all 50 states.
The 450 EXC was launched in 2003. It was an evolution from an earlier model, the 400 EXC. The biggest difference of note in the improved version was the increased displacement by way of a longer stroke.
Honda made the 2007 iteration of this bike street legal throughout the US. This upgrade required several changes, including DOT-approved tires and lights, gearing and exhaust modifications, and the addition of a horn and turn signals.
The street-legal trim continued to be produced, but in 2008, new off-road versions were released. These were the KTM 450 XC and 450 XC-W. These came with a new chassis, along with improvements in handling and suspension. The RFS motor was replaced with the XC4 motor and offered more power.
2010 offered the new Champions Edition, which came with several upgrades. In 2017, the KTM 450 received a complete redesign. This overhaul included a new chassis, PDS shocks, WP XPlor 48mm forks, and improved motor. The weight was reduced by 5 kg, and the seat lowered by 10 mm. Finally, to achieve better ground clearance, the foot pegs were raised by 6 mm.
