The second owner purchased this machine in the wooden crate at a government surplus auction in 1950. The motorcycle remained in the crate until sometime around 1980 when it was removed , serviced and ridden approximately 100 miles. It was since started occasionally and ridden approximately 100 miles in parades and military events over the years. Blue Moon Cycle obtained this motorcycle recently and after a thorough inspection, Blue Moon Cycle's owner John Landstrom has been riding this bike around Norcross GA. on nice days. Mileage will accumulate as he continues to ride it. The engine number has never been stamped, the bike is currently titled by its matching belly numbers 44-14386. A replica Thompson machine gun is included with sale. This bike runs and rides perfect and functions properly in every way. <p><strong>*********************1937 Levis Model D**********************</strong></p><p>Founded in 1905 by John Osborne where they started producing bicycles and before long moved into motorcycles, the Levis motorcycle derived its name for the Latin word for 'light', which was one of the diminutive machine's many virtues. One of the pioneers of the two-stroke motorcycle, the firm commenced manufacture of its 211cc, single-gear lightweight in 1911. Soon dubbed 'Popular', the model was a huge success for the Birmingham marque, remaining in production until 1926. Levis dominated 250cc racing in the early 1920s, winning the Lightweight category at the Isle of Man TT in 1920 and 1922. Throughout the 1930's Levis produced more models to cater for the ever-growing demand for motorcycles and in 1938 they had 11 different models!<br>This Model D which was originally dispatched to Kemsey & Melbourne Ltd in Melbourne Australia in 1937 has been in single ownership for quite some time and was part of a wonderful private museum.
