The Yamaha FZ8 is a middleweight motorcycle that has a specific role from the maker for potential riders. It is priced at $2,000 less than the FZ1 models and $1,000 more than the FZ6R. The FZ8 allows riders who feel limited by a 600cc bike, but do not want a 1,000cc powerhouse to compromise nicely. This bike has been produced since 2010 and on sale in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Europe. The FZ8 is considered a naked bike with a 779cc inline-four engine.
The FZ8 has a smaller engine, lighter crankshaft, smaller valves, and revised camshaft profile from the FZ1 by Yamaha. The aluminum frame and swingarm are the same as the more expensive FZ1. The all-aluminum frame allows the bike to have high rigidity and low weight. This helps the model to minimize frame torsion and provide high speed stability and cornering. The FZ8 has 310mm floating front discs with twin four-piston monoblock calipers for front brakes. In the rear, it has a single 267mm rear disc that gives it strong stopping power. ABS options are also available.
In 2013, the FZ8 was discontinued in the United States.
