Yamaha VIRAGO Motorcycles for Sale

Released in 1981, the Yamaha Virago was Yamaha's first V-twin cruiser motorcycle to be produced. It's also one of the first mass-produced cycles to be manufactured with mono-shock rear suspension. Upon its release, the Virago contained a 750 cc (46 cu in) engine. Soon after, both 500 cc (31 cu in) and 900 cc (55 cu in) engines were added to the lineup.
In 1984, Yamaha redesigned this bike, taking it from mono-shock to dual-shock and adding a tear-drop shaped gas tank. The popularity of the Yamaha Virago and other similar bikes led Harley-Davidson to advocate for a tariff on all imported cycles that were over 700 cc. In response, Yamaha traded out its 750-cc engine for a 690-cc version as a means of avoiding any tariffs.
Despite tariffs, Yamaha made the decision to then increase 920 cc engine to 1000 cc. Soon after, the 1000 cc engine was boosted to 1100 cc. The company rolled out both a 250 cc and 125 cc Virago model in the late 1980s, as well. Eventually, production of the larger displacement models came to an end, and the last Yamaha Virago model to be manufactured was the 2007 Virago 250. It was later given the name V-Star 250.
