R 1100 S

( Note There's a video I made years ago -- click on the 11th photo) Ride a piece of BMW history. Im selling my 2002 BMW R1100s Prep Boxer Cup motorcycle. This bike is an authentic bike from the 2002-3-4 racing series that went around the world as an undercard to the Moto GP series. The bikes were basically matched so the riders really put on a show. (There are vids on You tube worth watching.) This particular bike qualified at Daytona but was never raced. BMW also made a replica of the Boxer Cup series bikes. Other than the beautiful paint scheme the replicas are mostly stock and put out the stock 98 hp. My bike is one of the very few prep bikes in existence. It came through the factory with the intention of racing no heated grips or abs. It has more horsepower, tops at 160 mph and handles better. (The wheelbase is shorter so it turns in quicker.) It has the BMW racing chip and straight through Laser exhausts. But its also a great daily rider and high speed cruiser. Ive ridden many times for Southern NH to Montreal and this BMW performs effortlessly. I bought it from Max Stratton ( founder of Max BMW.) Max had gotten it from a collector. It had around 4,500 miles when I bought it in 2006. Now at 61,800 miles the motor still has all the grunt I recall when I got it. Its not at all finicky it starts every time and is ready for a sticker and a rider. Comes complete with carbon fiber racing bodywork. The clutch was replaced at Max BMW three years ago. Maybe 4000 mile on it. Happy to answer any and all questions. Not for everyone, but to certain riders this is a rare opportunity. If I werent 75 I wouldnt consider parting with it.

UPDATED 7/28/2024 Battery replaced today and started again!

YouTube video search 1980 BMW R100RT. Scroll to Kaplan America. Video is 6 yrs old mileage is the same. I bought my dream bike while in the hospital recovering from a car wreck not knowing I would never be able to ride again. I started in once to make sure it ran as advertised. Started again 7/28/2024. It leaked a small amount of oil. I ordered rings, gaskets, and grommets. Everything needed to reseal the cylinders and oil pan. My arm limitations will not allow me to do the work or ride. The package deal includes a Black Widow Lift ($1000), service and parts manuals, some BMW special tools. A complete listing of included parts will be in the photos. This bike has been garage kept since the video. I received a normal New Jersey title with the bike. I am the third owner. I submitted the title to Texas and received a salvage title back. The fairing was removed by a previous owner. I am guessing they broke the fairing and filed an insurance claim hence the salvage tile. I wanted the triple disk brakes, cast wheels, and oil cooler that this bike has. The bike and lift (350lbs) would need to be picked up in Grapevine, TX.

BMW Parts included:

Piston Ring Set (2)

Top End Gasket Set

Oil Pan Gasket

Oil Mesh Gasket

Points

Condenser

Transmission Neutral Switch

Piston Pin C-Rings

Air Box Spring Clips (4)

BMW Tools Included:

Siebenrock Exhaust Flange Tool

BikeMaster piston pin puller

Clutch Let Down Set

Alternator Puller Bolt

Flywheel Holding Tool

Rear Crankshaft Seal Installation Tool

Clutch Centering Tool

Others:

BMW factory Service Manual

Haynes Service Manual

BMW factory Parts List (2 books)

Lift

YouTube video below

$25,000

Used 1988 BMW Classic / Vintage

R 100 GS

We restored this 1988 BMW R100GS just last year for an older client, the bike is a little tall for him and the time has come to pass it along. I'm 6'00 and find the bike to have a comfortable riding position, however yes, on the taller side. The bike was sourced locally out of Ojai, California with just under 40,000 miles prior to the work. The engine has gone through a crank out rebuild. The engine was stripped to the case and glass beaded before being rebuilt with new bearings throughout, new euro spec high compression pistons, new nikasil cylinders and refurbished cylinder heads. The gearbox went through a similar process, stripped and glass beaded before being rebuilt with new bearings and any worn gears replaced with new. Original Bing carbs were vapor blasted and rebuilt in the process. The bodywork has been refinished in Avus Black paint and completed with new decals, the frame wears original paint. The bike came equipped with a rare factory optioned tachometer, of which was rebuilt along with the speedo during the restoration work. Headers are stainless, complete with a cross over pipe as per the factory exhaust, mated to the original collector and chrome muffler. Wheels were stripped and vapor blasted before being rebuilt with new bearings, stainless spokes and black anodized Sun rims, 21" front and 17" rear. The rebuilt wheels are clad in Michelin Awake Wild tires.New handlebars, new hand controls and switches. New grips and mirrors. The original seat was reupholstered with a new factory cover. Aftermarket aluminum panniers from Unit garage, complete with keys. The cases are easily removable for convenience. Ohlins adjustable suspension on the rear. An auxiliary light from PIAA was installed, the factory crash bar was modified in the process to seamlessly mount the light. Along with this modification came an aftermarket side stand from SureFoot for ease of use, the factory side stand was notoriously awkward. The sidestand was modified to correct the lean angle Pictures speak a thousand words. It's a handsome motorcycle that runs like a new machine. 40 year old air cooled BMWs aren't expected to be fast, this one will pleasantly surprise you with its spritely performance. Bike is located in Pasadena, California 91107 and happy to ship nationwide. R-100/7 Barn Find!!
Stock # 5574
1981 BMW R-100/7 Barn Find!!,
1981 BMW R-100/7!!! Fresh out of Grampa's Barn!! Runs & Rides!!! Here is a classic R-100/7 that needs a good home. It has been stored in a dry, Iowa barn/garage. It runs, and rides, the engine sounds great, clutch and transmission work correctly, and it looks great. Still sports the early 80's Vetter Windjammer fairing on it. This was the go to item in the 80's. A very functional, but out of date item. On the up side, stored away in the saddle bag is the stock headlight! There are also some extra parts, and the owners manual for the "Telaflex" brand fork brace, also a go to accessory from the 80's. It has what looks to be stock factory paint, the stock seat, with the BMW logo on it. Did you see the factory BMW backrest on it? The stock mufflers are in place and looks good, not rusted out. The inside of the gas tank also looks good, I did not see any rust in it. As stated, it runs and rides, but it will need some loving. I noticed that the neutral light is not working. Could be as simple as a bulb? Also the front brakes do not work. My guess is the master cylinder. The cool thing is that it runs, and rides!! We do have the title in hand. This is a true classic bike that could be restored, or ridden as is! These older bikes in this condition are getting hard to find. Give us a call, or stop in to see it. It can be seen at Brennys Motorcycle Clinic 4426 State st. Bettendorf, Iowa 52722

1977 BMW R 100 S S in Norcross, GA
$5,900

Used 1977 BMW Classic / Vintage

R 100 S S

Just a few years after introducing the BMW R90/6 and BMW R90S , BMW upped the capacity of its range-topping flat-twins to 980cc for the 1977 season in the form of the '/7' series. The latter comprised the R100/7 tourer, which used the 60bhp version of the new engine, while the cockpit-faired R100S sportster and the fully faired R100RS superbike came with 70bhp on tap. Within a couple of years the R100/7 'naked' had been re-titled R100T and gained an extra five horsepower, while the others - together with the new R100RT super-tourer - continued to use the 70bhp engine.

The 1977 MY BMW R 100 S has been created by the German engineers for those riders who make zero compromises when it comes to performance. It boasts a maximum power output of 70 horsepower and 76 Nm of torque from its air-cooled, four-stroke, 980cc, boxer two cylinder engine paired to a five-speed manual transmission.

In addition, it comes standard with features such as a hydraulic telescopic fork as a front suspension, dual adjustable shocks in the rear, a dual seat, pillion grab rails, a small, nose-fairing with a windshield, an analogue instrumentation panel, dual front disc brakes coupled to a rear drum brake, die-cast aluminum wheels and a chromed, dual exhaust system.

Our R100S was a prized possession of a retired BMW dealer in Canada. This was one of his favorite BMWs. It has been tastefully upgrader thru his years of ownership. It now sports BMW snowflake cast wheels and the full fairing from the sport touring RS model. Also included is a taller than stock tinted windscreen and BMW luggage. Suspension benifits from Progressive fork springs and Progressive rear shocks. This BMW has been well maintained and ridden regularly its entire life. Being a Canadian bike, the speedometer is in Kilometers showing 94,600 which equates to 58,700 miles. This motorcycle runs and rides great. Call John for details 770 447 6945

1976 BMW R75/6 /6 in Norcross, GA
$6,500

Used 1976 BMW Classic / Vintage

R75/6 /6

The BMW R60/6, R75/6, R90/6 and the sport model BMW R90S form a range of boxer twin motorcycles that were manufactured in Berlin , Germany, by BMW from 1974 to 1976. [1] The "slash six" models departed from the earlier "slash five" slightly. First, the smallest displacement changed from 500cc to 600cc. A sport model was offered, as were disc brakes (front only) for the first time. Additionally, the tank design was changed to remove the chrome trim panels (rubber knee pads were added instead), and the gauge pod was moved from the headlight housing to its own assembly over the housing.

Like the preceding /5 bikes, the /6 models are air-cooled, four-stroke, opposed-twin (boxer) engines with hemispherical combustion chambers . The engine is built around a one-piece tunnel crank-case. The camshaft is driven by a duplex chain and is located below the crankshaft. Valves are actuated by the camshaft through hardened followers, push rods, and rocker arms. The same base 247 engine was used for these motorcycles.

Final drive is by shaft, running from the transmission by universal joint to an oil bath within the right rear swing arm and connecting to a bevel gear and ring gear on the other end. Like the /5 models, the /6 models are equipped with telescopic front forks , 12-volt alternator and electrics, and standard tachometer and turn signals.

The Monza Blue R75/6 offered here is in excellent condition with a low 28,000 miles. The tires are new Continental Twins, the same type of tires that came on the /6 series from the factory. Blue Moon Cycle completed a full 10K service and we replaced the steering head bearings, something that is often overlooked on used motorcycles. This bike runs and rides like the day it left the factory. I bought my first BMW in 1976 and I have been riding and wrenching on BMWs ever since. I know when a BMW performs right and this one is right.

Feel free to call me for more details 770 447 6945 Thanks John

1975 BMW R90 /6
Years produced: 1974-1976
Claimed power: 60hp @ 6,500rpm
Top speed: 115mph (period test)
Engine type: 898cc, air-cooled, two valves per cylinder, horizontally-opposed twin

Weight: (wet) 210 kg (462lb)
Price then: $2,950
MPG: 45-50

As the largest of BMW’s new line of Slash-Six models introduced for the 1974 model year, the BMW R90 /6 plugged an important hole in the famed Bavarian company’s line-up. In the growing American marketplace, bigger was increasingly better, and prior to the 898cc R90/6, the largest bike in BMW’s stable was the 745cc BMW R75 /5 introduced in 1971.

While the R75 /5 was a competent road bike, it was decidedly old-school compared to the new flash coming out of Japan, and, perhaps more importantly, a bit slow.

To get the new R90 up to speed, BMW bored out the R75’s 745cc engine to 898cc, giving the new bike 10 more ponies (60hp versus the R75’s 50hp). Top speed went from a previous best of 108mph for the R75 to 115mph for the R90, and unlike the R75, it was easy to hustle the R90 past the magical 100mph mark. For the R90/6 BMW swapped the R75’s front drum brake for a 10.25in disc, dropped the combined speedo/tach for more standard and sporty looking individual units, upgraded the handlebar switchgear and adopted a new five-speed transmission in place of the R75’s four-speed unit. It was also the first BMW without a kick starter.

When the R90 /6 was introduced, it was an instant hit with the motorcycling press. Cycle World magazine was agog over the new model, telling its readers in its February 1974 issue, “The new BMW R90/6 is so exciting it’s difficult to find a point at which to begin describing it,” while Cycle Guide called it a “powerful motorcycle, designed to compete in the performance-conscious market of 1974.” The R90/6 was even accepted into the growing camp of sportbikes, with Cycle World claiming the bike showed that “BMW is serious in its intention of producing the lightest, best handling Sportbike around.

Our R90/6 has several well thought out performance modifications: Progressive rear shocks, progressive fork springs, San Jose fork brace, Snowflake cast wheels, dual disc front brake, single disc rear brake, seat lowered one inch, Browns sidestand, custom Granada red paint.

This motorcycle was previously owned by a BMW fanatic who took loving care of his fleet of BMW motorcycles. R75/5 /5

The year 1969 was a tumultuous time in the motorcycle industry, marked by the rise of the Japanese and the beginning of the end for the British. Amidst this backdrop of rapidly evolving consumer sentiment, BMW introduced its /5 (“slash five”) Series for the 1970 model year. In its three years of production, the /5 family of motorcycles reinvigorated the brand with its contemporary design and ushered in BMW’s fabled “Airhead” Type 247 Boxer Twin engine, variations of which would continue to propel the marque’s R-Series motorcycles for the next 25 years.

The /5 Series, built at BMW’s newest facility in Spandau, Berlin, was available in three variants. The R 50/5 (500cc) was the most affordable, the R 60/5 (600cc) was the midrange, and the R 75/5 (750cc) was the top of the line.

Compared to its predecessor, the BMW /2 Series, the /5 Series was a thoroughly modernized ground-up redesign. It boasted up-to-date 12-volt DC electrics complete with a 180-watt alternator, an electric starter, more powerful drum brakes, and a slew of other noteworthy upgrades. The frame was of tubular steel construction with a double downward cradle for the engine, similar to the benchmark Norton Featherbed. A rear subframe was bolted onto the mainframe and served as the upper mount for the twin rear shocks. Up front, the former /2’s Earles fork was replaced with a telescopic fork on the /5, signaling a functional change of focus from utilitarian sidecar duty to improved handling as a solo motorcycle. At barely over 460 lb, the R 75/5 was one of the lightest 750cc bikes of the era, and with a top speed of 109 mph, it was one of the fastest as well.

The classic BMW motorcycle community is an active one, with abundant technical support and a well-organized network of enthusiasts (aka “Airheads”) who gather regularly to celebrate their favorite machines. Parts are still plentiful, BMW still supports /5 models and the aftermarket parts supply is thriving. The BMW /5 is in my opinion the most practical and roadworthy “Classic” motorcycle you can own.

Our BMW R75/5 has received a comprehensive frame up restoration. All painted parts have received a high quality base coat/clear coat with perfect hand applied pinstripes on tank and fenders. The engine has been completely rebuilt with many upgrades to enhance performance and reliability. We have stacks of receipts for work done , too lengthy for this writeup. The photos simply do not do justice, call John to schedule a test ride. 770 447 6945 x 20. world wide shipping is available.

The R60/2 was synonymous with long-distance reliability when it was introduced in 1960. Its 30-horsepower, 600-cc air-cooled twin was capable of hauling a bike, its rider, and an adventure’s worth of gear anywhere in the world, as Danny Liska proved by taking an R60/2 from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego in the early 1960s

1969 is the last and best year for the BMWR60/2

This BMW was bought here at Blue Moon Cycle in 1997, now 26 years later we bought it back from the wife of the previous owner. He always loved this bike and he took good care of it. We gave it a thorough inspection, changed the fluids and installed a new battery. It runs and rides perfect, the motor is smooth and quiet. She is nicely dressed with larger touring tank which BMW referred to as the “Sport” tank, European handlebars, Hella bar end turn signals, head light and tail light protection bars, Pagusa solo seat and luggage rack. Call John for more details or to schedule a test ride. 770 447 6945x 20

R51/2 51/2

BMW introduced its first post-war twin-cylinder model in 1949. This was the R51/2 based, as its designation suggests, on the pre-war R51. Introduced in 1938, the latter was an updated version of the R5 of 1936, which had represented a new departure for BMW by virtue of its method of valve actuation, adopting two chain-driven camshafts that permitted shorter pushrods and higher revs. The R51 deployed the R5-type engine in new cycle parts that featured a telescopic front fork and plunger rear suspension, while improvements incorporated into the post-war R51/2 included a two-way damped front fork, a gearbox main-shaft damper and a strengthened frame.

BMW demonstrated that they were in tune with the times, and in one year of production 5,000 units were manufactured. After one year of production, the R51/2 was replaced by the R51/3.

The 1950 R51/2 was also favored by the government agencies such as the police which opted for the heavy BMW machines again. President Heuss’s federal escort received six of the first copies manufactured at the time.

The model featured a 494cc air-cooled four-stroke twin-cylinder boxer engine that delivered an output power of 24 hp at 5,800 rpm and was fitted with a four-speed manual transmission. The bike had a weight of 185 kg (407 lbs) and a top speed of 135 kph (83 mph).

The front telescopic fork featured a hydraulic damper, and the rear had a telescopic suspension. The model came with wired-spoked wheels and 200 mm brake drum units front and rear, and a twin bird tail-shaped exhaust.

Our R51/2 is a matching numbers bike. It was restored many years ago and was held in a private collection. Blue Moon Cycle bought the estate recently. We put fresh oil and a new battery in it and like most vintage BMWs it started right up and runs great. The German KALI sidecar is true to the period. We realize not everyone appreciates sidecars so we are willing to split the pair in which case they will be sold separately. $5000 for the sidecar and $25,000 for the motorcycle solo. call John for more details 770 447 6945
