All of which makes the handling absolutely amazing. Several reviews have panned the horse power. Seriously? A bike this light, 410 lbs. wet, would spin the rear tire out instantly under full throttle if not for the traction control. It has a beautifully laid out 4.3-inch full color TFT screen with spot on fuel calibration. It has four riding modes and a launch control ?, like a drag bike. The coolest feature on the bike is the <i>rider programmable six axis ECU using buttons on the handlebars. </i>You can program the power output, the lean sensitive ABS, the lean sensitive traction control and wheelie control. Go from mild to stand up wheelie track bike. I am 5'8" and have the low seat on it. I have the original seat.</p>

<p><strong>In 2001, the Italian motorcycle manufacturer launched the Ducati 996S, a sports motorcycle that debuted in 1999 alongside the base or Biposto and 996SPS (Sport Production Special) models. Compared to the standard model, the S version packed race-derived Ohlins suspensions.</strong></p><p>Other than suspension, the S model was identical to the base version, packing the same standard features, such as the full fairing, a small windscreen, a two-piece dual seat, a dual exhaust system mounted under the seat, a single-sided swingarm, and five-spoke wheels.</p><p>In the handling department, the bike was driven by a 43 mm rebound and compression-adjustable Ohlins fork on the front with 127 mm wheel travel and a compression and rebound-adjustable Ohlins shock absorber on the rear with 130 mm wheel travel.</p><p>The braking performance was achieved by two 320 mm discs with four-piston calipers on the front wheel and a 220 mm disc with a dual-piston caliper on the front wheel, offering excellent stopping power.</p><p>Underneath its fuel tank, the 2001 Ducati 996S packed a 996cc four-stroke liquid-cooled V-twin engine that delivered an output power of 112 hp at 8,500 rpm and 99 Nm (73 lb-ft) torque at 7,000 rpm.</p><p>The engine power was transferred to a six-speed manual transmission with a hydraulically controlled dry clutch and sent to the rear wheel through a final chain drive, spinning the rear wheel to a top speed of 259 kph (161 mph).</p>

Pin point precision handling. Many extras: Remus exhaust/performance chip, Sargeant driver and passenger seats, Turner handle bars, Marchesini black wheels (stock are ugly and gray), bar end mirrors, fog lights, fly screen windshield, heated hand grips. Not the best looking Ducati but don’t ride it if you’re not ready to fall in love. </p><p>A problem with this model is the kickstand can wallow out the engine case leading to a difficult/expensive repair. This common problem point is rock solid on this bike. Test rides as passenger only until cash in hand. Front and rear tires in great shape with many miles left. Always garaged and well maintained.
